Brokeback Mountain: The Opera Coming Soon

Following massive success at the box office, 'Brokeback Mountain' is set to be turned into an opera production, with the New York City Opera commissioning a composer based on the short story that inspired the film.

Annie Proulx wrote 'Brokeback Mountain' in 1997, which was turned into the successful movie starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Ang Lee in 2005.

Composer Charles Wuorinen, who has been commissioned to compose the opera, said in a statement that, "Ever since encountering Annie Proulx's extraordinary story I have wanted to make an opera on it, and it gives me great joy that Gerard Mortier and New York City Opera have given me the opportunity to do so."

The opera is set to premiere in 2013.

Robert Plant - Plant Snubs Oasis

British rocker ROBERT PLANT was unimpressed when OASIS star LIAM GALLAGHER visited his dressing room unannounced - and sent him on his way.

The Live Forever hitmaker made a surprise visit to Plant's dressing room as he took a break from a Led Zeppelin gig last year (07).

But as Gallagher handed Plant a series of compliments, Plant ordered the star out of his dressing room.

He says, "The Gallaghers came by the dressing room and leaned against the door. And Liam said, 'You're the f**king business you are, aren't you? You're the one.'

"And I said, 'Of course I am, I always knew that. It's just that you never switched on. You need the next door - down there on the left.'"

The family of Heath Ledger have returned to their native Australia where they will hold a private funeral for the actor in his home town of Perth.
Ledger's father Kim, mother Sally and sister Kate flew from Los Angeles to Brisbane, Australia, late last night.
The family are now home in Perth, where the body of the Oscar-nominated actor is to be laid to rest next to two of his grandparents in Karrakatta Cemetery.
It is also reported that the toxicology results of the 'Brokeback Mountain' star's autopsy are to be revealed this week.
The initial medical examiner's report was inconclusive as to the cause of his death on 22 January.

Great Britain's Andy Abraham finishes last in Eurovision Song Contest

Andy Abraham, who was representing Great Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest last night (May 24), finished joint last in the competition.

Abraham's song, 'Even If', received 14 points in the competition, placing it in joint last place. Russia won the competition, with their entrant Dima Bilan scoring 272 points for his song, 'Believe!'.

Accusations of bias voting were made again this year, with many former Soviet states awarding Russia the maximum 12 points during the voting process.

Sir Terry Wogan, who has provided commentary on the competition for the BBC since the 1970s, said that the voting behaviour may prompt him to quit his commentating role. "I think it's tremendously disappointing from the point of view of the United Kingdom," he said during the broadcast.

"Andy Abraham gave, I think, the performance of his life with a song that certainly deserved far more points than it got," he continued. "When you look at the points that Spain got, that Bosnia-Herzegovina got some really ridiculous songs."

"It's very easy to pick a country that's going to give another country 12 points," he said after the event, reports BBC News. "It's sad, it's really, really sad. It was all talked about beforehand and I decided that I was going to dismiss it. But it's very difficult to dismiss something that's right in your face."
